Nordic Energy Research and the Nordic Council of Ministers\u2019 Offices in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania invite you to the 2026 Nordic-Baltic Energy Conference, taking place in Riga, Latvia on 15 September.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s conference will focus on energy security and security of supply in the Nordic-Baltic region<\/strong>. In a changing geopolitical landscape, these issues have become central to both national policy and regional cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference will bring together decision makers, private sector actors, and NGOs from across the Nordic and Baltic countries<\/strong> to exchange perspectives and discuss the future of regional energy cooperation.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nordic and Baltic countries share the ambition of building an integrated, reliable, and sustainable energy system. Achieving this requires continued cooperation between governments, industry, and civil society. As energy systems become more closely connected, the coming years will be important for strengthening regional coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference will explore how the region can move forward together. How can the Nordic and Baltic countries strengthen security of supply? What forms of cooperation are needed to support both resilience and the green transition?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baltic\u2013Nordic Roadmap on Energy Security<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The session will present the Nordic Policy Roadmap on Energy Security. This will be followed by a high-level panel discussion with representatives from Nordic and Baltic ministries, focusing on priorities for regional cooperation, alignment of national policies, and next steps to strengthen energy security and security of supply in the Nordic\u2013Baltic region. In addition, ministers will share their long-term, ten-year vision for the region\u2019s energy security.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Preparedness in local energy systems<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine\u2019s example of maintaining energy supply under extreme conditions shows the necessity for a decentralised green and renewable energy system able to withstand pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session will focus on how local governments and energy actors in the Nordic\u2013Baltic region can strengthen preparedness and security of supply through renewable energy solutions. Examples such as solar and wind power combined with battery storage will illustrate how local-level planning and competences can reduce risks and contribute to a more resilient energy system. The discussion will also address energy blackout preparedness and crisis management, including blackout scenarios, risk assessments and local-level contingency planning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The Nordic\u2013Baltic grid has been connected for 1.5 years. Where do we go from here following its implementation? This session will highlight key experiences related to future security of supply and system operation. It will also look ahead to how strengthened Baltic\u2013Nordic cooperation can further enhance grid resilience, preparedness and the integration of renewable energy. In addition, the session will explore the role of offshore energy hubs and energy islands, with a focus on possible connections to the Baltic states and integration into the broader Nordic\u2013Baltic power system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The Nordic-Baltic Energy Conference 2026 focuses on energy security and security of supply in the Nordic\u2013Baltic region at a time when energy system development is a geopolitical necessity. Selected early-career professionals will pitch policy briefs based on the best abstracts submitted through a joint call by Nordic Energy Research and the Nordic Council of Ministers\u2019 offices in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. Conference participants will be able to ask questions and contribute to the policy suggestions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
