Sofi brings extensive experience in cross-border regional collaboration, most recently between Sweden and Denmark. She also has a multidisciplinary background as both a journalist and an economist, which enables her to combine analytical insight with clear and effective communication.

Before joining Nordic Energy Research, Sofi worked as an Advisor at the political cooperation organisation Greater Copenhagen, where she contributed to communication, analysis, and public affairs. She has also been responsible for external communications and impact measurement at Innovation Skåne, a regional innovation company.

Sofi holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a specialisation in Economics, as well as a degree in Journalism, both from Lund University.

Her role is to enhance the communication efforts of the Nordic cooperation’s vital climate and environmental work, while also developing a coordinated strategy for the sector’s outreach. 

Prior to joining Nordic Energy Research, Kristina spent six years as Head of Communications at the Arctic Council Secretariat in Tromsø, Norway, where she led the Council’s communications through both interesting and challenging periods for Arctic cooperation. 

Kristina holds an MA in International Communications from Macquarie University in Sydney and is currently completing an M.Sc. in Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies at Hagen, a distance-learning university based in Germany.

Before joining Nordic Energy Research, Nina worked as a journalist at VG and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). She has also gained experience in international communications through internships at the Norwegian Consulate General in New York and the United Nations Association of Norway. 

Nina holds an M.Phil. in Political Communication: Nordic Perspectives from the University of Oslo and a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Politics from the University of Bergen and the University of Bologna.

Before joining Nordic Energy Research, Betty worked as a project manager for the Nordic Association in Denmark, leading a Nordic labour market project funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. In this role, she assisted citizens in overcoming border barriers and integrating into the Nordic labour market while also gaining leadership experience as a middle manager. She has also worked as a translator. 

Betty holds an M.A. in Learning and Innovative Change from Aalborg University in Copenhagen and a bachelor’s degree in pedagogy with a focus on the labour market, culture, and climate from both the University of Oslo and the University of Copenhagen.

As Head of Department and member of the management team, Elvar supports the CEO in the daily management of the institution, oversees strategic initiatives and project portfolios, manages internal processes, and leads stakeholder engagement.  

Before joining Nordic Energy Research, he worked as a team leader at the Nordic Council of Ministers in Copenhagen and held various positions in Icelandic ministries, focusing on innovation and industrial policy. He also has experience from the financial sector and national innovation agencies in Iceland.  

Elvar holds an M.Sc. in Strategic Management from the University of Iceland and is set to complete a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the same university in 2025.

Maria has extensive experience in strategic communication and public affairs. Before joining Nordic Energy Research, she spent over a decade working with strategic communication in Sweden and the Nordics, most recently as Nordic Director at a Swedish public affairs firm specialising in sustainability. She has also worked in communication for the Moderate Party in the Swedish Parliament and for Sweden’s largest and most influential business federation. 

Maria holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Uppsala University, with additional studies in Political Science and Media & Communication. She has also studied at the London School of Economics and Macquarie University.
